Upper Coastal Paradise:
 Brazosport - South Brazoria County

Lake Jackson, Freeport, Surfside Village, Brazoria,
Clute, Quintana, Jones Creek, Oyster Creek, Richmond

-
As the Texas Upper Coast continued to grow through the last half of the last century, there wasn't one community large enough and quick enough to keep up with the spread of population and development.

By the 1980s, settlers from other parts of Texas and across the nation were discovering the pure pleasure of this special region and were constructing vacation homes, permanent residences, new businesses and the infrastructure that goes along with it, spreading the density of population across a region that offers great coastal amenities and attractions.

Brazosport is the largest and hub community of southern Brazoria County, just a little over an hour's drive south of Houston. Btazosport is famous for her shells with over 600 varities washing up on several area beaches year round. Quintana, Bryan and Surfside Beaches are a few of the favorite hot spots in the area where you can find loads of sea shells for the hunting.

Also in Brazosport, diving is rapidly becoming a popular activity with the Texas Flower Gardens as an underwater main attraction. Also, camping, golf, tennis and other attractions such as the Center for the Arts and Sciences, two National Wildlife Refuges, museums, and the many parks and local festivals draw tourists to the area on a year round basis.

Birding is a regular sport in and around Brazosport as well with many world class birding opportunities. Some of the favorite birding spots include the Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge, San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge, Gulf Coast Bird Observatory, the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail, Quintana Beach Bird Sanctuary, and the Peach Point Wildlife Management Area Wilderness Park.

Lake Jackson is a growing village of around 26,000 that has seen tremendous growth in recent decades. The area serves as a retirement area, is popular with Winter Texans and has an increasingly large base population that has fled the city (Houston) and become rooted in this comfortable and dynamic coastal community - a better way of life.

Nearby is the City of Freeport, where the historic Brazos River meets the Texas Gulf Coast. Freeport is approximately 50 miles south of Houston and is known for moderate climate and tropical beauty.

Next in line and directly on the Gulf Coast is Surfside Village, an historic Texas beach hangout and home to some of the best surfing on the Upper texas coast.   Known for excellent bay and offshore fishing, beginner and experienced anglers are in for lots of excitement. Windsurfers enjoy the strong wind and riding the waves and there is also a strong local diving community.
